I am not the kind of person who tries to save on food because I think nutrition is the most important thing not to save on (and health) and I love eating. But I found myself in the situation where just after moving I had to pay my first rent and the deposit for my new flat, whereas the first paycheck will be received in a couple of weeks, so long story short I have to count pennies for a bit.

When I went to shop for the first time I though that I should try to spend no more than £10 and I still had to fill up the fridge with essentials. Bare in mind though that I had brought with me some ready to make vegetable and cereal soup, a tomato sauce for pasta, honey, chocolate cookies (bought at the airport) and a can of beans. I will also not have lunch at home during the week because of work.

My check at the end of the shopping trip contained the following:

- 10 pork sausages

- 1 pint of milk

- 1 cucumber (I chose the biggest one I could find as the price is fixed)

- 1 pack of fortified Branflakes (I chose the shop line over Kellog's)

- 4 lemon and merengue yogurts

- 1 pack of reduced strawberries (again I picked the one with the biggest strawberries)

- 1 iceberg lettuce

- 1 pack of pasta

For this shopping I payed £9.94, so slightly less than my budget. I want to explain why I chose these products as I feel this is very important: I made sure I did not skip any of the food groups, there is vegetables and fruits, diary for calcium, carbs from the pasta and the bran flakes and proteins from meat. I was to stress that I am absolutely not willing to compromise my healthy diet because of my lack of funds.

I am right now at the start of this "challenge" and will write a post at the end of the week to tell you how it went. But my general idea here is that:

Milk and cereals will make my breakfasts with a spoonful of honey, and when the milk will be finished it will be yogurt with cereals.

strawberries and cookies will be my afternoon snacks post-work

pork sausages can be incorporated in the tomato pasta sauce or can be done on their own

beans work as a side dish for main meals but they are also delicious as beans on toast for breakfast or snack

Most generally and importantly I have to resist the calling from inside food shops for crisps and ready made food or sushi and chinese takeaways.

Let the challenge begin!

View of Porto

Portugal is a beautiful country with amazing people and wonderful food. There is something about Portugal that has always fascinated me and I think a lot of people too. This country has a very old history, from the ancient Evora, where you can still see ruins of roman temples, to the more lively Porto. When we think of Portugal we think of fado and "saudade", there is a malinconic feeling when you walk the narrow cobbled streets of Lisbon that open on the ocean; that same ocean that was considered for a long time the end of the world.
Portugal is blessed with a warm weather and the sun shines most of the year, but it is also extremely windy and perfect for surfing. And the language sounds like a cryptic poem read out loud. There are so many reasons to visit this country and I was lucky enough to make this trip, so here are my tips if you want to make this wonderful journey.

If you come from a nordic country of from a "cold place" don't come here in July and August (same tip applies to Italy and Greece) you will feel like melting on the streets. The cities were built in marble and stone so they retain all the hot from the sun and make them a living hell for those who are not used to it. September is pretty hot too. Portugal is beautiful under any season, winters are not too cold or rainy and the gloomy sky contributes to the fascination of this country. Be careful though that the wind becomes particularly strong in this season. Spring and generally more sunny months are ideal too for a holiday if you can stand the heat and you will be able to combine sightseeing to beautiful afternoons at the beach.

Ruins of a roman temple in Evora

Sunblock is a must, also remember that if you want to visit churches and religious places you shouldn't wear too short shorts or too mini miniskirst. Don't get me wrong, people are very liberal, but it is a country with a strong catholic history, so it is more out of respect than anything else to dress appropriately when visiting sacred places. It is not like in Italy where they will explicitely ask you to cover up when entering churches, but as you are going to wear a scarf when visiting a mosque in Istanbul just make sure not too be too much uncovered when entering churches.

The Barrio Alto in Lisbon is a must see, especially during the evening/night, don't go clubbing, just walk around and mingle between bars. Prices are very cheap and they will treat you more nicely if they see that you are a foreigner. Listen to some fado if you have the possibility, it's the typical traditional portuguese music and a very interesting experience, especially if you are in a bar late at night drinking some port wine or wine from Madeira.

Talking about wines if you are an estimator, then you should take one of the tours of the canteens in Porto. Port wine is quite strong so if you are particularly lightweigh make sure you snacked before the tasting session. If you want to have some with your meal remember that port wine is quite fragrant as well, so it will go better with your dessert and does not work well as a table wine.

Azulejos in Porto

The best azulejos are found in Porto, you will see a lot of tiles and mosaics walking the streets, outside churches, in the train station or just on simple private houses. There won't be that many azulejos in Lisbon, but Lisbon is much better for the apreciation of Baroque art. Baroque art was born here (hence the origin of the name) and was later adopted in Italy and France. The Jeronimos Monastry is a great example of Baroque architecture. In Lisbon you should also check out the Sao Jorge castle for a magnificent view on the city and the ocean, really magical, but you have to climb a very steep hill to get to the entrance so if it is very hot or you have just had lunch take a taxi, they are also very cheap in general in the whole country.

Monasteiro dos Gernimos in Lisbon

You should also visit the University of Coimbra, whose library is among the most famous and beautiful in the world.

University of Coimbra library

When in Porto visit Rua Bombarda, is the hip road of art galleries and hipster and indie shops and restaurants. It is surely a must to check out if you are staying in the city for a longer time. There is a very nice tea room that has an internal garden, it's called Rota do Chà and if you are a tea apreciator you should check it out, the choice of teas is outstanding and the atmosphere so calm and relaxing, perfect for a post shopping afternoon. From there you could walk to the Jardins do Palacio de Cristal for a very beautiful view on the river and the city, they also have peacocks roaming around freely in the gardens.

There is a long stading rivalry between the two major cities, Porto and Lisbon, where football is just one of the many ways this rivalry is shown. If you visit both cities remember that you will be asked which one you think is the best a lot, a lot. Just try not to offend anyone, but you will see that they are quite different cities and you will be able to find your way out of this tricky question.

This are the main tips I could think of, but if you have any questions don't esitate to write a comment about it and I will gladly answer all of them.ol.http://www.blogger.com/profile/14116647352010178888noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340551888169522979.post-57618701215853280072015-05-31T04:29:00.000-07:002015-05-31T04:29:26.828-07:00Products of the month

In the last month I switched around a bit the beauty products I use daily, spring has been around for a month or so, but rainy coldish days have interrupeted the warming up process. My skin also seems to have made peace with me and it looks quite good, not so much redness and oilyness. On the other hand, the end of exam season left me with a good pair of dark circles, which are not probably going to get better as I will be working all summer. But here are the products that made me survive this month:

1) Eau Thermale Avène. An incredible product, I am not really sure how just a spritz of water, even if thermal, can do such wonders on the skin, but it does and I bring it with me everywhere. I cut down on moisturising my skin and do it just once a day now in the evening but I spritz this water in the morning and evening and sometimes in between.

2) MAC BB cream. When I feel like I need a bit of coverage I go for this one, it has a very good broad spectrum protection of 35spf and it is slighly moisturising.

3) YSL Touche Eclat. The product. Simple, light-weight, I use it as a concealer under my eyes as it blends in perfectly with my makeup free skin. As I said my skin has been very generous with me lately so I need just very little touch ups and not a full makeup face.

4) Yves rocher brown mascara. This has been a staple for me, I bought this mascara for uìyears, because there is nothing better for a no-makeup look. My lashes are very short and light in colour, so a black mascara on its own looks quite fake, it emphasises my under eye circles and the shortness of said lashes. This one though has no specific effect, doesn't really make them look longer or with more volume, it just adds a bit of colour that looks natural with my overall complex and hair colour. It's just great for spring.

5) Chanel Soleil Tan. Doesn't look that great in the pot, too orangey and sparkly, to it sits on the skin fabulously. It gives you a very subtle glow and I use it on the cheeks, not as a bronzer but as a general colour. I feel it is very light to be a traditional contour bronzer, but it is perfect to give a nice natural-like undertone to the skin.

6) Yves Rocher loose powder. I confess I had this product for years, one of my very first beauty buys. Of course at the time I knew nothing about makeup and I just applied it liberally on my skin (at least the colour blended quite nicely with my skin tone, although it looks seriously too matte and powdery). But with age comes wisdom, and after abandoning it for years but always carrying it around with me (dosn't it feel so elegant to apply powder?) I rediscovered ths product. As my skin is a bit oily on the T zone, with some enlarged pores I apply it when I feel that my face is too shiny. It gives a very nice finish and smells amazingly.

These are the 6 products that I have been using religiously this month. Have you tried any of these? What do you think?

Summer has always been the best moment to refresh my life style. Some people prefer the new year, it's more symbolic, but for me summer represents holidays and chance to travel, destress and learn something new. Summer has also always been quite minimalist for me, maybe because what I usually do is stroll from home to the beach and then go out usually with my bikini under a dress, but somehow it has always been my detox season.

So here is how to have your own minimalist summer, or holiday.

1) Sunscreen. It goes beyond saying, it's all you really need. Get a good one that has moisturising properties as well so you don't have to carry around thousands of skincare products. Sometimes just leaving your skin in peace, to do it own thing, it's the best. Don't overwork it, don't overmoisturise it, don't overclean it. the sun has good antimicrobial properties, and gives you a nice vitamin D boost. Just protect it with a good sunblock.

2) Book. It's always nice carrying a book around in summer, it give a specific feeling to your holiday. Somehow the books I read during a specific holiday influence the way I remember it. Don't carry around some massive book though, it's very heavy and unpractical. "Bonjour tristesse" by Francoise Sagan, "Tender is the night" by Fitzgerald or "The sun also rises" by Hemingway are all relatively small books, set in summer between the South of France and Spain. They are total gems that everyone should read anyway.

3) One pair of earrings, one necklace, one ring. That's all you need in your jewellery box. You only need them at night if you go for a cocktail or for a dance, you don't want to lose them swimming in the sea or in the pool. A nice tan is the only accessory you need anyway. Snö of Sweden makes some adorable silver jewels.

4) Eau thermale Avène. The miracle in a bottle, it's amazing how just some thermal water can make such a big difference on the skin. Spray it during sunbathing and afterwards.

5) A lipstick. That's all the makeup you want to have with you. The sun will tighten your skin just like a toner, the nice glow you'll get will be your foundation, and the stress-free holiday will be your concealer. A lipstick, maybe dark, maybe coral will just give that little bit of extra polishness you need.

6)Meditation app. I use the one called "Breathe", it is freee on the Apple store and has various types of meditation programs, all quite short and easy to follow.

With only these little things you'll see that you need only a cabin bag to travel. No more stress, no more panting while carrying your luggage around some little cobbled streets in Italy. Just enjoy your holiday, rewind and live minimalistically for a while.

Some days you feel like slipping on your black underwear, because no matter who you are no matter is you are a business woman or a shop assistant, there is a part of your soul which is black.
In those days you feel like being kissed a lot and you long for that sense of excitement when the person you love touches your hair or kisses your neck. In those days you wear lipstick too and you cover you body in simple clothes, maybe black too. Black is the easiest elegance and is the easiest sexy, and you are looking for a man that is elegant and sexy. The one that wears and expensive watch but you can see his abs underneath a thin white linen shirt..
In those days you take black and white pictures and wear smokey eyes, just because you can.
Wear tones of mascara, and that dress that leaves your back naked. Buy yourself flowers and drink champagne in the morning. Paint your nails black as the night and tell a boy a made up name when he askes for your number. Then have a wonderful weekend away with him and never call him again.
Smuggle into a fancy hotel and walk through the corridors like you've always lived there. Buy Chanel, even just a lipstick, smile and laugh and get tanned. Get home in the morning and wake up at night.

Just lose yourself in the beauty of life, because we all deserve it.

Maybe because I have big lips or maybe I always found fascinating, slightly sexual, the way a woman puts on lipstick. It does not require pulling and making weird faces, you just open slightly your mouth, looking at the reflection of your lips in your pocket mirror and apply some colour. Lipstick colours also don't have so many strict rules as eyeshadows have. You can wear any lipstick in the world and it will probably suit you, you might not like it, but it won't clash on your face.

As a confession, I can say that putting on lipstick really lifts my mood, I put some when I feel a bit worn out, even if I just end up staying at home. So here is a roundup of my favourite lipsticks.

1) Chanel Coco Rouge in Teheran. I am generally a fan of pinkish shades, I am not bold enough to pull reds, especially during the day. So this one would be definitely one I would wear everyday, it's the perfect shade because it is not too pink but also not too nude. It certainly gives that French allure we all want.

2) MAC Victoriana and Cherry lipstick pencil. They are amazing together, the wonderfully helpful mua at MAC helped me select these as I was looking for a darker and fuller colour. I have fair skin so a more purple colour is better than an orangey one. I am absolutely helpless without the lip pencil as it really gives a great definition to the lips. Again I have quite full and big ones so I really don't want to apply a blotch of colour that looks like an undefined big red spot on my face.

3) Rimmel 900 Pink Blush. This is my everyday lipstick, pink and soft, not too noticeable but slightly shiny and pink. It is great for both summer and winter,a s in summer it will make you look more tanned, while in winter it won't clash too much with your pallor. It is also pretty cheap and long lasting, always pros.

4) Rimmel Kate collection 05. This is a great slightly dark lipstick, the first one I ever bought (oh the memories!) great for a night out, it is less definite that the MAC lipstick so it can work for the day as well or fore a more laidback situation.

5)And last is Artdeco Hydra 22 Infrared. I am emotionally attached to this one as it was a Christmas present from my mom. The packaging is really sleek and elegant, just like the Chanel lipsticks. The colour has a bit of a shine in it and tend more on the orangey spectrum, but somehow it perfectly fits my skin colour. Moms always know best, right?

These are my top 5 lipsticks, which ones are yours?ol.http://www.blogger.com/profile/14116647352010178888noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340551888169522979.post-62469161900034895082015-04-17T06:17:00.003-07:002015-04-17T06:17:47.426-07:00Outfit of the week- on Gisele Bunchen and supermodels

This time I choose I less traditional outfit of the week, in fact this look was just rocked by Gisele Bunchen in her last even catwalk. The supermodel had her last walk at the Sao Paolo Fashion Week, a nice way to tribute her Brazilian origins. The lucky designer was Colcci, who is probably enjoying now a good dose of exposure because of the event.

This look is extremely summery, the dress itself it's lovely, but I am afraid would look so good only on a very tall and slim model, just as Gisele is. I really loved the gladiator sandals, they are so elegant and upbeat an otherwise pretty simple look.

Whatever Gisele has in mind now for her career, I am sure it will be as bright as her path so far. Has the world lost a great model? I think it did, she is in my opinion the real last supermodel (her and Kate Moss), a name bigger than a brand itself. But every tale must come to an end, and this has been a pretty good story.ol.http://www.blogger.com/profile/14116647352010178888noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340551888169522979.post-36840019465404588762015-04-13T00:09:00.002-07:002015-04-13T00:09:29.748-07:00Coachella 2015 look inspirationBest looks from Coachella this years

We've long heard about those long flight beauty routines, we all saw Lisa Eldrige's youtube video about it, and also Ruth Crilly's. But what if our flight is short (i.e. up to 5hours), what if we don't have time, and actually think it's exagerated, to put on mask, toner, cleanser, and 3 different moisturising layers? I get you, I fly quite frequently, on average once a month, and I also can feel how my skin goes dry and irritated after 4h in the plane, and I have to count very drastic weather changes.

I tend not to carry any liquids in my carry on bag, as I really don't want security to stop me because I forgot to take the toothpaste out, and I also like to travel light and not to carry around an extra 300g of stuff on my shoulder, as I love duty free shopping. As everyone I always get early enough to the airport, leaving a good hour before gates open, in the mean time I get my free luxury make-over at the duty free. How do I do that? Testers!

So here is the guide for a complete luxury beauty stop before boarding your flight.

First of all leave home with your face completely clean, (cleansers are more difficult to find as testers) don't apply any moisturizer or toner or anything, you will put them on at the airport. As you get to the duty free area go to the bathroom and wash your hands (bacteria are everywhere at the airport!).

Then go to the counters, usually shopping assistants are quite busy, so they won't bother you too much with questions. Put on products that you heard of and wanted to try or simply go to the most expensive conters, i.e. Chanel, La Prairie, Sisley, La Mer, Givenchy, you know them. Then just start layering on, mixing and matching if you want.

Start with toning, essence, moisturizer, eye cream, hand cream, lip balm and finish off with some mist (you are still going to get your skin dried out in the plane, so don't be afraid to over do). If you want and have extra time just go to a make up counter (MAC is always amazing) and tell them you are looking for a bold lipstick, or a new liner, they will do it for you for free, don't worry they are used to it.

I personally go to the Chanel counters and use their Hydra Beauty range, it's amazing for my skin, but a pain for my pocket, so I just use their gel cream, mist and lip balm, Shisheido has some cream toners and softners ( for example the Ibuki one- a wonder on the pores), I do eye cream at La Prairie, as eye area is always delicate and I only want top products and I love L'Occitane hand creams.

Oh I almost forgot, A spritz of a new parfume you want to try will finish off this pampering, luxiurious and free beauty stop!

What is your flight beauty routine?ol.http://www.blogger.com/profile/14116647352010178888noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340551888169522979.post-8693045387386435302015-04-11T01:11:00.003-07:002015-04-11T04:25:18.030-07:00Self tan for pale skin

I did it! I finally did it! I found a good cheap self tanner that won't turn me into an Umpa Lumpa.

I confess two sins here, first of all I had this product for years stashed into a box because the first time I used this self tanner it was summer, in Italy. No wonders I saw no results, I was going to the beach every day anyway, yes give me a Nobel prize for my intelligence.

Second of all I don't like girls that are too tanned, that bronze colour is just not for me, so this tanner is perfect because it won't turn you into Kim Kardashian. If you want her look then this is not a post for you.

Immagine this conversation with your coworker, as this is what is going to happen after a couple of days of double application.

Her: Oh darling, you look so glowing! What foundation are you using?
You: I am not wearing any to be honest
Her: So is this a natural colour?
You: Of course! I went to the sea-side for the weekend, it was so sunny, I think I got tanned. (Of course you didn't, you were curing that hangover and binge watching Netflix)
Her: (enviously nodding): Oooh!

Coworker envy will be achieved by using the Johnson's Holiday skin facial moisturiser over the weekend and faking a trip to a nice famous sea side city or any place faily far away from home where you can get a weekend holiday and a tan.

So the other day while I was playing along my stuff/ trying to avoid any adult responsibilities, I found my old Johnson's Holiday Skin facial moisturizer. I bought it some years back and as you read, I didn't find it very effcient in tanning me. However as I opened it again I saw some dark brown stains where some of the cream might have got, so I thought to myself: "it acutally works!", and decided to try it again.

I have been a couple of days into it, and put it twice a day ( as you can see I am not the most patient girl of them all!) but it works! It really does, 4 applications into it I can see a subtle glow to my skin, and a difference in colour between my neck and face. So far it a very suble and gentle effect, I am not tanned but my skin colour is more even and slightly darker (which makes my redness seem less red). I think this is a very good colour for people with very light skin, such as mine, where most tanners are too drastic. Also we are still in April, so a very dark tan is obviously fake, unless you went to Coachella or Brasil.

I am really surpirsed by the effects of this product as it is very cheap as well (sin n. 3: I don't believe in cheap makeup/skincare products) but it leaves no streaks and just looks very natural and amazing.

I found out they also have a body lotion, so I will try that one too and hopefully it will be as nice!

We all have learnt to love (or hate) Leandra Medine, a.k.a. The Men Repeller, and either way she is today one of the most important names in fashion blogging and street style. Personally I think that Medine's personal style is very often a bit excessive and over the top, but I can't deny that she has a good eye for fashion and some of her outfits are really spot on, like this one.

As this picture was taken from Leandra's Instagram (as you can see it was a group picture that I cropped out in order to avoid confusion) I don't know the designer of this dress as it was not specified. I love however how it was paired, the dress itself is very beautiful, quite folk but I like how the pendant necklaces just cover up the daring neckline and the beautiful statement chocker just pairs up amaizigly. Hair was also done properly as it was quite simple but uncovered the neck and necklace and the makeup is also almost absent (something usual for Leandra) not taking attention away from the outfit.

It's no secret that one of my favourite current models is Sara Sampaio, she is just adorable, exactly the kind of girl I like, smily, happy and enthusiast. I like girls how have fun and are playful, without trying too hard. And then, there is her look, she's a Victoria's Secret model, of course she is wonderful, not too skinny, slightly tanned with those blue-green piercing eyes.

Some time ago, Nylon magazine had a video interview with her, where she explained her makeup secrets and products (you can watch it here). Of course she is quite high maintenance, and not all of us can buy a Estée Lauder foundation AND a Benefit Watt's Up highlighter AND Shiseido lashcurlers.

Nevertheless her makeup routine is quite simple afterall she's a model with perfect skin, duh! So it's quite easy to recreate her summery-glowy look with good cheaper products. Here's a list:

1) Sara starts with the eyelash-curler, she uses the Shiseido one, as she says "it's the only one that can fit my whole eye", bottom line here is buy one that you know can cover up all of your lashes, if your eyes are very big, then you might want to invest in the Shiseido one. Eyelash curling will make your eyes pop even wthout the need of tons of mascara and eyeliner.

2) Mascara, Sara uses the Maybelline Volume Express, this one is a common drugstore mascara, but believe me no one can make better mascaras then Maybelline (that's how their business started anyway), I personally use the Colossal Volume Express as I like how the wand is structured, slighly curved, as I have very short lashes and it covers them all.

3) Bronzer, the one used by Sara is the Victoria Secret Baked Mineral one, but since the company has recently shut down the makeup department (which was actually pretty good and cheap) you can either try to find it on Ebay or opt for something else. If you choose the latter KIKO Milano makes very good bronzers, after all they're an Italian company and italian girls always like a good tan! KIKO has a very good quality to price ratio and loads on colours and palettes you can choose from.

4) Sara also mentions that she doesn't usually wear foundation, but when she has to cover blemishes or spots she uses the Estée Lauder Double Wear one, which comes at $37, on the other side she doesn't wear concealer at all, and "rocks her dark circles". So here the choice is to you, if your skin is pretty clear you can buy only the foundation and not a concealer, but if you feel like you need both then opt for a cheaper foundation. The Rimmel Wake Me Up works wonders, and it is slightly stranslucent, so it really gives you a nice glowy skin.

5) Lpstick. Sara mentions the Nars make up pencil in Velvet Matte. We all know that Nars is a quite expensive company even though their lipsticks are pretty good. If you want to spend less definitely head over topshop, their lipsticks are a hidden gem, covering a lot of shades, you will surely find a colour you will love.
The key factor here is the matte finish, that Sara loves, but only on the lips (read no powder on your foundation).

6) To highlight her features Sara uses Benefit Watt's up, which I have myself, and it's amazing. But if it's your first highlighter and you are not sure if you'll like its effect then don't waste 20+ pounds on something you might not like. Try the highlighters that KIKO Milano produces, they have two shades, pink and gold. Pink generally goes better on older, palers skins, while the gold one is better on youger, darker skins; however this is not a fixed rule, just buy what you think you'd like to see more. I think the gold one will go better with the bronzer, as it will just be a lighter shade, not a different colour.

That's it, that's how Sara Sampaio gets her every day look. Would you try that on yourself? What products would you use? :)

Jewelery is a big obsession for women, those shiny beautiful diamonds, since the dawn of history indicating wealth and beauty, decorating men and women. Liz Taylor used to say she felt naked without jewels on, Marylin sung about them as "a girl's best friends" and still up today the Chopard ads and Bulgari photoshoots make our heads spin.

Still not all of us can afford them, and most of us can't affford as many as we actually want. Everyone has at least once gave in to the temptation to buy fakes, bijoux and we were all let down at least once by them, those blue stains on our fingersand earlobes? Checked. Stones that fall off? Double checked again. So here are some tips on how to maintain those bijoux as long as possible and how to chose them in order to look more expensive hen they actually are.

First of all, as soon as you buy your new jewels coat them with some transparent nail polish, it will preserve longer the coating and the won't turn blue/brown/black and won't stain your fingers, and it will make them look shinier, a property of the authentic precious metals and stones. You are basically cheating light into transforming the piece of glass on your necklace into at least a semi-precious stone.

Stones. Stones are the most difficult thing to fake, even precious stones can be divided according to quality, and no, a £10 ring with a red stone cannot pass as a badly cut ruby. Even Swarovsky crystals can be distinguished from the real thing. So try to avoid statement necklaces or bangs or earrings, they are fake and look fake.

The best way to go is subtle, thin jewels, in the simple colours of precious metals, i.e. gold and silver. You can vary shapes, compositions and number. Do not go for jewels that spell worlds or have too many too colorful charms, if fake, they look taky.

Don't buy fake copies of famous jewels, really, everyone will notice, no need to show off something you can't afford.

Nails should always be perfect when wearing rings, either have them done or without nail polish, but half there colour or bitten nails are a no-no.

A tip for what concerns watches. Watches are expensive, overly expensive, but the thing that gives away the cheap ones is the false leather. False leather can look like the real one, but actually is less flexible and after a while it breaks down literally. Consider changing only those parts with real leather, it will cost you aroung £10, but upgrade the look of your watch by miles!

One last thing, don't buy too many bijoux, buy some that you can combine with others and save on buying that pair of earrings that you saw in that shop window.ol.http://www.blogger.com/profile/14116647352010178888noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340551888169522979.post-21329448762166755152015-04-03T01:34:00.002-07:002015-04-03T01:34:48.820-07:00Outfit of the week- Lily Rose Depp

The 15 years old daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradise made her official red carpet debut this week in New York at the Metiere d'art show by Chanel. Accompanied by her mother, a long-time muse of Lagerfeld, she wore a total outfit by Chanel's SS15. I really think she's lovely and the dress is amazing, I also like how she personalised t with her own shoes and did not put the boots that went with that look on the catwalk. Obviously with parents like that she has to be soooo pretty! We imagine that soon she'll become a Chanel muse herself!

What do you think? Doesn't she look lovely? :)ol.http://www.blogger.com/profile/14116647352010178888noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340551888169522979.post-10572434318746021372015-04-02T06:56:00.001-07:002015-04-02T06:56:37.814-07:00How to make money from cosmetic samples on Ebay

Some people buy magazines only to sell out the samples and make some money, other times you simply want to read the magazine but are not interested in the product itself. So here's a short simple guide on how to make the most from these products.

1) Don't sell them the moment you get them, all the other people that bought the magazine will have the same sample to sell and too many of them will be circulating online, meaning that you won't be able to make that much out of them as other people will have lower prices. Wait for at least 3 months (ebay offers a free relist on the second month, which means products will still be online to be sold 2 months after they come out) or even more.

2) Be aware if the product is discontinued, it will gain value as lovers of the products will try to look online if they can find it again before switching to something new.

3) Calculate the price you will be giving it. First look up the price of the whole size product and divide it by the number of grams or milliliters, so you will know how much a gram/mil is worth according to the company. Multiply this by your sample size and you will have the prize the product is officially worth (usually more than what you have spent on the magazine). The difference between the sample size and the magazine is how much money you have gained, check if it's ok for you, if not try to increase your selling price a bit (works better the more months have passed from the magazine release date).

4) Decide whether to give a free delivery or not. If you do then you can increase the price quite a bit, as the buyer won't know effectlively how much you are paying for postal services and he will feel like he's not really paying for it as it's not written up on the bill. If you don't offer free delivery then you need to be ready to sacrifice on the your gains, as paying for delivery always feels like an added burden.

Have you got any other tricks of the trade? xol.http://www.blogger.com/profile/14116647352010178888noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340551888169522979.post-68534521388893299972015-04-01T15:01:00.002-07:002015-04-01T15:01:17.751-07:00Products of the month

Now that April has started we can really say that spring is here, or at least around the corner (I am looking at you Scotland!) and it's also time to ditch the deep nourishing masks and heavily moisturising creams and give in to all the spring and summery products. Here are my favourites:

Chanel Hydra beauty lip balm, a wonderful product for your lips, it looks and feels so luxurious and classy. It is a bit expensive, but it really upgrades your lip game and as spring is the season for a more natural makeup and look your lips have to be on point. Plus we know that Chanel is the best!

Mac BB cream. Perfect for a subtle makeup look, it's flawless and packed with loads of antioxidants and vitamins for the skin. It also provdes a 35 spf sun protection, a must for days that see more and more sun. Ditch your contour palette and surrender to this sleek and subtle BB cream.

KIKO Milano eyeshadow, n.154 in the picture. KIKO eyeshadows are great and cheap, long lasting and saturared with colour, they go very nicely on the eye without the need of primers. You can put very little under your eyes to bring attention to them in a very subtle way, or use it just as an eyeshadow to get a bronzier look without sacrifying the dramatic effect given by a dark colour.

This one is an all time favourite, it works wonders to keep on point your brows throughout the day and in spring I like to use it on its own without using a brow pencil underneath. You can buy it in different shades of brown up to black for a more dramatic effect, while the transparent one is good if you already have a brow pencil of if you just want to keep the eyebrows in place.

What are your spring products? What make up or skincare products you can't live without in this period?

Let's all take a step back with this new obsession about hiding away from the sun all scared that we're going to get some wrinkles. The sun is good for us, we know it, that's why we smile every time we see it after a week of rain, or we suddenly want to get out and go for a walk in the park. However recently I have been reading a lot of posts encouraging women to absolutely avoid it, and promoting, I quote "a Marilyn Manson pallor". Really? Do we REALLY want to look like an unhealthy ghost? I don't think so, so here are some good reasons to go out and enjoy a nice day in the sun.

1) Sun is a well known antimicrobial, have you ever noticed how after a holiday in the sun your skin looks less prone to break out? Yea, it's the sun killing all those bacteria that we try to wash off every day with soaps and cleansers, the sun just kills them off.

2) Exposure to sunlight is the best way to accomulate vitamin D, we all know it. There is a good article about this and sun protection in the NHS website, or here. Let's not also forget one of the diseases that was eradicated from Northern Europe with the help of vitamin supplements, rickets. Rickets is the defective mineralsation and calcification of bones due, predominantly, to a chronic lack of vitamin D. This disease was never a real problem in Southern Europe as exposure to sunlight is high enough there.

3) Sweating. There have been so many studies convincing us on how a sauna session is good for the body as through sweating we release some toxins that otherwise will accumulate in the body. Sweating in the sun can give the same result. obviously you won't be sweating that much, but this means that you won't lower that much your heart rate, which in people with already low blood pressure is not that beneficial.

4)Meteoropathy. We all know how we are more cheerful in a sunny day, while many rainy days in a row tend to depress us. Meteoropathy is a thing that affects our happiness daily, why ignore this signal and stay locked up in the house, when we clearly feel like going out?

"We will all get old and have wrinkles, it is the natural outcome in life, that doesn't mean that we can't have fun in the process"

5) Activities. There are loads of things we can do in the sun, like jogging, going to the park and playing with our friends, relaxng on the beach or going swimming in an open pool. There are loads of activities to do that will seem so much less of a burden rather than going to the gym.

6) We will gain a healthy glow, and a nice natural tan by stying in the sun. Becaus let's face it, sun beds, fake tans, bronzers and all that stuff that should recreate the action of the sun, are chemicals, anly chemicals and UV rays that we are layering on our skin and this on the long run is not good either.

I also want to specifiy that I am by no means promoting excessive and irresponsible sun exposure. Don't go to the beach in summer between 12 and 3pm, always wear a spf 50 that contains PA+++, that is also water resistant. Remember to reapply it every 2 to 3 hours as well, unprotected exposure is not good. The Shisheido Perfect UV protector is a very valid option for a sunscreen.

All I am trying to say is that layering chemicals to fake a tan is worse than getting the real thing while protected by a sunblock. Also I really think that having a nice day at the beach, enyoing yourself and life and getting some wrinkles is better than being super obsessive with skincare and not ahving a good time in life. We will all get old and have wrinkles, it is the natural outcome in life, that doesn't mean that we can't have fun in the process.
What are your opinions about this article? I am looking forward to read them all! x

This selfie is taken directly from Lindsay's Instagram and you might have seen it a couple of days ago. As the caption goes, she wears shoes by Chanel, a Givenchy jacket and Gucci pants. What I love about this look, apart from the total black, is the sexiness. Lindsay is a grown up woman and contrary to many child stars she grew up to be pretty hot herself. And what I like about her is that she's not hiding her appeal. Too many women today choose comfort over style, and I won't be judging this as I think we all have had our lazy days, or weeks. But there is something appealing to a woman dressed to the nines, it shows that she likes fashion, likes to play with it and it's a woman hard to get, as she is the first one to put an effort for herself.

Obviously everything is styled to perfection, but hey, what did we expect from a style queen like Lindsay Lohan?
We all have that one friend, the one that reads loads of books, goes to theater but what we really love about her is her free, outsider spirit. Now, how many times have we wondered what to get her for Christmas/birthdays/any occasion that requires a present? Let's face it, she's not the simplest gift-receiver, so here's a roundup of some presents she might want. (And if you are that girl, then here are some gifts for yourself, because you deserve it!)

1) Art work, it can be a Rene Gruau poster, an abstract painting or a famous picture, but she sure appreciates some good room decor, and we never have enough pictures for our homes.

2) A theatre membership, better if for two! She'll really appreciate that and you can expand your bonding moments not limiting them to pre-drinks or the gym. This is a gift for yourself too really, going to the theatre never did anyone any bad!

3) Organic skincare. She probably is already a fan of it, but try to find a good, little known brand and give her one of those non-essentials, but still nice to have products. She probably already has a day cream or a face mask, but what about a face mist or eyelash conditioner? That's right, she probably doesn't own one, but she'll be thankful and feel spoilt every time she uses it.

4) A diary, better if leather covered. this again might seem as a useless piece, but to be fair we all have the useful stuff in the first place, and in today's world, where everything is written down on your phone it's nice to have a little diary where to note down little things. It just gives you a special and nostalgic feeling. Moleskine does some great ones!

5) A beautiful set of towels, or a beach towel. Ok you have to go on the luxury ones for this one. A towel is a very bland thing to give to a friend, but if you check out the Missoni ones, they're lux, quite cheap and precious, she'll love those ones!

As it always happens to me, you probably will end up buying these for yourself!

Barbie, the toy almost every girl played with, sometimes to the cringe of her parents, but she didn't know the meaning of big words such as feminism and sexism, she just played with her doll. Barbie was our fashion and beauty icon then (hello poreless skin and lustrous hair!) and she represents pretty well the beauty and fashion icons that we admire today, i.e. always perfect.

We could write sociological essays about Barbie and still not come up with the fascination she has on girls, but I chose her as this week's representative outfit because she is an it girl, graced with eternal elegance and some pretty good fashion eye, as we can see in this Rykiel look. Love love love the fringed skirt that perfectly matches the top, and the colours although being quite dark and understated are nicely contrasted by the bright red shopper.

Well done Barbie, and whoever is the genious behind her Istagram account (@barbiestyle)!

What do you think, is this a good outfit or not? And what do you think of my choice of Barbie as a it girl? I wellcome any kind of comment, be it praise or criticism, I think a nice discussion could come up from this post! Let me know xol.http://www.blogger.com/profile/14116647352010178888noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-340551888169522979.post-83558113100876365832015-03-17T13:10:00.000-07:002015-03-17T13:10:18.892-07:005 ways to make your life more thoughtful and satisfiedI think we all need to make life easier on ourselves. We spend so much time working and worrying about trivilities, or actually important things, that at the end of the day it is like we were drained of our energy. Here are some little things that can be done daily to improve our life perception.

1) Buy yourself flowers. They are beautiful, smell nice and great decor items. There is nothing more cheerful than a bunch of flowers welcoming you home after a day out. Flowers look chic and give to the house a je-ne-sais-quoi. They show that you care.

2) Spend some times outdoors, go to the countryside on weekends. You probably already have this temptation, to get away from the city during weekends, you want so time to relax and unwind, but what you end up doing is staying in bed or maximum going to a spa. Don't get me wrong, spas are great, but intead of getting drained by their fees for a full body massage, why don't you spend the same money for a cheap weekend in the countryside. You can find a room in a bed and breakfast made from a cottage and have long walks outside. Don't Instagram every four steps you take, try to enjoy the real thing and remember it with the mind, not pictures.

3) Go to a bar and have some coffee and cake. We all have our sweet tooth, why not transform it into an occasion to sit with a friend and chat a bit. Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter and all social networks makes us forget the importance of real human contact, but you'll see how it will feel better when you'll see your friends in person and hear them saying things rather than reading them.

4) Turn off your phone for a while. Of course don't do this while at work, you actually need to answer it. But every day, for a while try to turn it off and for example sit on a bench in the park, letting your mind rest and unwind. Phones are great distractors from ourselves. It seems like we cannot spend even some minutes without checking if we have any messages or trying a new game. It's almost like we are scared of our own company, but we shouldn't, we should embrace it. After all, we are the only person we'll spend our entire life with.

5) Pick up a book. But not a manual on how to be happy, or some guide to be a successful woman. Take an old classic, Dostoevsky, Hemingway, you name it, and let it take you. Some of the most peaceful and rewarding hours can be spent reading.

Hair is probably one of our biggest beauty obsessions (not in a good way!) and source of eternal unsatisfaction. All of us, since we were girls would long for our friend's shade of blonde, or the little curl at the tips, while she probably wanted the volume of our hair and that roll-out-of-bed texture (that we dreaded).

As a consequence finding hair products that would satisfy our needs and desires it has always been difficult, and let's face it: we were always let down buy the results of that shampoo or the conditioner.

Myself I have bought many different styling products, gone for cut changes, perms and lastly highlights. I am in a place right now where I am quite satisfied with what I have, but I want to tell you how I got here. Three years ago I had a pixie cut, not short, masculine. I soon got bored of not being able to style my hair and vary it a bit and decided to let it grow. When it got to a short bob length I started highlighting it, and since then it went through four bleachings and was never cut as I want my hair to grow decently long. You can imagine in what state the tips of my hair are now, super stressed out. I tied in all this time many different shampoos and conditioners, but as said they all kind of let me down, until I bought the Aussie Moist shampoo and 3 Minute Miracle conditioner, and they were PERFECT.

My hair has never been so soft after using these products together and the scent is amazing, you feel it all day. The only product better than this is argan oil, that I sometimes use as a mask, but it is always quite a pain as it has to soak in at least half an hour, and washing it out takes quite a long time. While these two little miracles in a bottle take 5 minutes together to work their magic.

Another pro point is that the conditioner doesn't leave my hair flat (which was the problem with all the other conditioners before), and oh that smell! Who needs hair perfume when you can use this? I also think that my highlights got more visible after I started using them.

The fact that Aussie products are also so cheap makes me love them even more. Of course I would like to treat my tresses with Kerastase, but that would mean not paying the bills, so bottom line I'd rather have electricity than Kate Middleton's hair.

So if you are looking for cheap shampoo and conditioner combo, that will make your hair supermodel like, look no further and walk in to Boots, Aussie it there waiting to work its magic.
Do you like Aussie's hair products? What are your other favorite drugstore hair care brands? x
